Our story
The original Pandanus Court was built in 1964. The family fishing shack, which had occupied the Kings Beach site since just after the Second World War, was moved to the block next door making way for the first holiday apartment block with an inground swimming pool to be built on the main surfing beach at Caloundra.
The first inground swimming pool on King’s Beach
Guests enjoying Pandanus Court’s in-ground pool circa 1964. Advertising from the time described the pool as a crystal clear swimming pool surrounded by lawns and recliner lounges for sun baking.
At the time when Pandanus Court was first built, Caloundra was becoming known as a booming paradise north of Brisbane. Ideally situated right on Kings Beach, with a private stairway to the patrolled beach and the area’s first in-ground pool, the complex became a favourite holiday destination of families from Brisbane and regional Queensland.
The tariff was most reasonable during the Christmas Holidays, offering a modern apartment with spectacular views of Caloundra Headland and the “glorious blue Pacific Ocean”. In fact, peak season rates were set at $2.15 a day. In the low season, an apartment could be rented for less than $1.20 a day.
The world’s greatest Liners could be seen as they made their way across Moreton Bay to and from the Port of Brisbane.
Redeveloping a
kings beach icon
In 2002, the original complex was demolished to make way for the current block of 16 three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments. During the renovation process, it was important that the most iconic features of the complex remained.
Original features like the shape of the complex which provided ocean views from every apartment, private stairway to the patrolled surfing beach and manicured gardens facing the ocean remained so that the character and charm of Pandanus Court could be enjoyed by generations to come.
In current times, we’re proud to still enjoy the company of families who first discovered Pandanus Court in 1964 and continue to choose Pandanus Court as their preferred destination for a relaxed, absolute beachfront holiday.
